Formal Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) sets forth the rules and restrictions governing use of services provided by AlsterNet (“Provider”). The AUP is incorporated by reference into the AlsterNet Website Care Plan Agreement. By using our services, you (“Client”) agree to comply with this AUP.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this AUP is to ensure the secure, reliable, and lawful use of AlsterNet’s services. Prohibited activities described below threaten the integrity of our systems, other clients, and the internet at large.

2. Prohibited Activities
2.1 Illegal Use

Clients may not use services for:

  • Hosting, distributing, or transmitting content that violates any law or regulation.

  • Copyright or trademark infringement.

  • Fraudulent activities, deceptive schemes, or phishing.

  • Hosting or distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any exploitative content.

2.2 Security Violations
  • Unauthorized access attempts (hacking, penetration testing without consent).

  • Distribution of malware, viruses, or malicious code.

  • Interference with or disruption of networks, servers, or systems.

  • Circumvention of authentication or security measures.

2.3 Network & System Abuse
  • Excessive consumption of resources disrupting other clients.

  • Denial-of-service (DoS/DDoS) attacks or botnet participation.

  • Operating open mail relays or sending unsolicited bulk email (“spam”).

2.4 Content Restrictions
  • Defamatory, abusive, harassing, or obscene material.

  • Content promoting hate, violence, terrorism, or discrimination.

  • False, misleading, or deceptive information.

3. Client Responsibilities

3.1 The Client must ensure compliance of its end users, contractors, or third parties with this AUP.
3.2 The Client is responsible for promptly reporting any security breach or misuse.

4. Enforcement
4.1 Monitoring

Provider does not actively monitor all Client content but reserves the right to investigate violations of this AUP.

4.2 Remedial Actions

In case of violation, Provider may:

  • Issue a warning.

  • Temporarily suspend services.

  • Permanently terminate services for severe or repeated breaches.

  • Report unlawful activities to authorities.

4.3 Liability

The Client remains responsible for all use of services, including damages arising from violations.

5. Changes to the AUP

Provider may amend this AUP at any time. Updates become effective upon publication on the Provider’s website. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance.

6. Governing Law

This AUP is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
